DESCRIPTION
A challenging itinerary through woods and alpine landscapes.

Geographical Location
The Lagorai Group is the largest mountain range in eastern Trentino, extending for about 70 km. This massif stretches between Monte Panarotta and Passo Rolle, bordered to the north by the Val di Fiemme, to the west by the Val di Cembra, and to the east by the Primiero and Vanoi Valleys. The Lagorai mountains are characterized by their striking rock faces in shades ranging from black to red and green, creating a breathtaking landscape. The only pass accessible by car is Passo Manghen, which connects Valsugana with Val di Fiemme. Among the many lakes in the area, Lago Lagorai is the largest, nestled between Cimon di Cadinello, Cima Formion, and the slopes of Castel di Bombasel. This region is also a biodiversity paradise, home to many animal and plant species typical of the Alps.

Excursion
The proposed itinerary is challenging, not so much due to technical difficulty, classified as S1, but due to the demanding elevation gain and the nature of the terrain. The climb begins on a steep and continuous dirt road, offering no respite. Afterward, the dirt road, which starts from Campiolato and leads to Lago Lagorai, becomes a steep and rugged mule track with uneven rocky pavement that requires caution. This stretch, about 800 meters long, is particularly tough and presents a challenge for both hikers and cyclists. The descent through Val Lagorai is also not to be underestimated, with a significant slope that tests the arms.
The route mainly winds through the woods, offering panoramic views of Val di Fiemme. Once you reach Lago Lagorai, you can enjoy the peace of the place, perhaps relaxing on the shores or savoring the traditional dishes at Malga Lagorai, a rustic refuge where Trentino cuisine takes center stage. The area, rarely frequented and with limited signage, guarantees an authentic experience, far from the more popular trails.
For nature lovers, Lagorai offers an unspoiled environment; it’s not just a physical journey but an immersion into the purest and wildest nature of Trentino.

ITINERARY
From the parking area at the Centro Fondo di Tesero (900 m), follow the “Val di Fiemme e Fassa” bike path towards Predazzo. Upon reaching Ziano di Fiemme (951 m), leave the bike path and ascend Val Cavelonte. At Ponte delle Mandre (1296 m), turn right onto the Valaree Alte forest road, heading to Malga Fraton (1756 m) and Campiolato (1720 m). Then, ascend the mule track to Lago Lagorai and Malga Lagorai (1876 m). Return via the same mule track to Campiolato and then descend following trail markers 316 and L06 first to Parcheggio Le Mandre (1381 m) and then to Val di Fiemme in Località Lago. Finally, return to the starting point by taking the “Val di Fiemme e Fassa” bike path.

We recommend having equipment suitable for the route, weather conditions, and season: helmet, windproof and/or rain jacket, map and/or GPS device, sunglasses, headlamp and/or handlebar light (an unexpected delay can extend travel time), sunscreen, MTB shoes, first aid kit, bike repair kit, specialized clothing, whistle or signal bell, bike wheel reflectors, gloves, backpack with food and beverages.

HOW TO ARRIVE
Take the A22, exit at Egna-Ora, and take the SS48 towards Cavalese. Before reaching Cavalese, take the SP232, and upon arriving in Tesero, at the roundabout, turn right following the sign for Stadio and Centro del Fondo “Fabio Canal”.
