DESCRIPTION
A three-thousand-meter peak with extraordinary views.
Geographical Location
Solda, also known as Sulden, is a picturesque village located at 1,906 meters above sea level, within the municipality of Stelvio, in the province of Bolzano. This locality is situated in the scenic valley of the same name, at the foot of the imposing Ortles-Cevedale mountain range, a paradise for hikers looking to explore the area through a well-marked network of trails.
Excursion
Among the many hikes that can be undertaken in Solda, the one we propose is probably the most panoramic and rewarding. This mountain route, although relatively easy, requires surefootedness and absence of vertigo. The trail, which climbs along the Zay Valley, follows a rushing stream and crosses wide mountain meadows, constantly offering close-up views of the majestic Ortles Group. On the right side of the Zay Valley rises the Dossobello di Dentro, a peak that, despite its proximity to the Düsseldorfer Hütte, presents a considerable challenge. The ascent, which begins just beyond the refuge, requires surefootedness and absence of vertigo, with some sections equipped with metal cables. The route is a loop, and for the return, it follows the normal route to the summit, starting from the village of Solda; the descent, unlike the ascent, presents no technical difficulties.
From the summit of Cima Dossobello di Dentro, the panorama that unfolds before your eyes is extraordinary: to the southwest, you can admire the peaks of Ortles, Zebrù, and Gran Zebrù; to the south rise the Cevedale and Cima Beltovo di Dentro, while to the east stand Cima Vertana and Angelo Grande.
History
The Düsseldorfer Hütte, a key reference point for hikers tackling this route, has a fascinating history. Built in 1892 by the Düsseldorf section of the Deutscher Alpenverein (DAV), the refuge passed to the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI) after World War I and was owned by the Milan section until recently. Since 2010, the refuge has been managed by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano - South Tyrol, which continues to preserve this historic structure, a witness to the alpine adventures of generations of hikers.
